WHO AM I
My name is Mariley Maia and I am not a Carioca. I left home early
because I always wanted to live in a big city. I’ve been living in Rio de Janeiro
for more than four decades (for what I consider myself a Carioca).
During that time, I spent several years studying and I finished some language
courses and graduated in journalism as well. I worked for many companies,
all of them well known worldwide multinationals. I was then able to maintain daily
contacts with their people in the USA, England, South Africa, Australia and also
to keep connections with their offices located in Canada and Chile.
After leaving the business industry, carried out for such multinationals, I decided
to enroll myself in the Tourism Course, at the Marc Apoio. I am
enthralled by what I do and dedicate full time to the tourist visitors and
getting up-to-date with the different subjects related to tourism in this
called Marvelous City.
Since February 2000, I am fully qualified to escort both Brazilian and foreign
tourists, both at their leisure visits, or business trips to Rio de Janeiro,
in three languages: Portuguese, English and Spanish. I have also acquired
practice with Conferences and Seminars attendants as well as other types of events.
In the meantime, I accomplished several other courses in tourism and participated
in a number of seminars. The more important one being the Receptive Sea Cruises
Specialization Course, promoted by Marc Apoio/SAT (South America Tours)
in 2003.
In 2002, I attended to a Spanish intensive course in Malaga and, in 2007, I worked
during six months in Europe, as a tour conductor attending groups from Latin America.
After a proper training period, I spent 5 months in various Continental circuits, visiting Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland. I visited England, Holland and Belgium to complete my planned training. Besides these countries, which I had already visited in the past, I traveled alone to Greece, the Greek Islands, Palma de Maiorca, the Canary Islands, Senegal and Chile.
I work using all types of transportation means: bus (including double deckers),
vans, private cars, taxis, public transportation services and, last but not least,
on foot.
